Blessings of Conference

“If you trust God enough to listen for His message in every sermon, song, and prayer in this conference, you will find it,” says President Henry B. Eyring of the First Presidency. “And if you then go and do what He would have you do, your power to trust Him will grow, and in time you will be overwhelmed with gratitude to find that He has come to trust you.”

Get your pen, paper and heart ready, because Conference Weekend is here, yay:). I hope you get answers to to lift and direct you, and come away feeling renewed:)

Prayer and Answers

Simplify

“We women have a lot to learn about simplifying our lives. We have to decide what is important and then move along at a pace that is comfortable for us. We have to develop the maturity to stop trying to prove something. We have to learn to be content with what we are.”

Tuesday Tell All - Great Grandparents

Do you remember your great-grandparents? What do you know about them?
I didn't personally know my great-grandparents as they were born in the 1880's, in fact I only had one grandparent still alive when I was born, but I know a fair bit about them, at least I feel like I know them. We named our son after my great-grandfather who I felt a particular connection to. One of the stories that I likes about him and his wife was that at dinner time they would set an extra place at the dinner table incase a beggar came by their house who was hungry, I love that act of charity and that they placed themselves in a position where they were ready to act on good impressions immediately.

Peanut Butter Smudges and All

Marjorie Pay Hinckley:
"I don't want to drive up to the pearly gates in a shiny sports car, wearing beautifully, tailored clothes, my hair expertly coiffed, and with long, perfectly manicured fingernails. I want to drive up in a station wagon that has mud on the wheels from taking kids to scout camp. I want to be there with a smudge of peanut butter on my shirt from making sandwiches for a sick neighbors children. I want to be there with a little dirt under my fingernails from helping to weed someone's garden. I want to be there with children's sticky kisses on my cheeks and the tears of a friend on my shoulder. I want the Lord to know I was really here and that I really lived."

Forget-Me-Not, by Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf

I was able to attend the General Relief Society Meeting last night, and it was amazing (obviously:). I really loved President Uchtdorf's talk about the delicate and often overlooked, Forget-Me-Not flower. He said:

"There is something inspiring and sublime about the little forget-me-not flower. I hope it will be a joyful symbol of the little things that make your lives joyful and sweet."
~Dieter F. Uchtdorf~

I loved it so much that I whipped up a couple of images covering the 5 points he told us not to forget...

Where Else Would We Look?

"In Minerva Teichert's magnificent painting Christ in a Red Robe, the Savior of mankind, with nail prints in His hands, stands majestically with outstretched arms. In tenderness and compassion He looks down upon the women straining to reach Him. "I love the symbolism of women reaching out to touch the Savior. We long to be close to the Lord, for we know that He loves each of us and desires to encircle us 'eternally in the arms of his love.' His touch can heal ailments spiritual, emotional, or physical. He is our Advocate, Exemplar, Good Shepherd, and Redeemer. Where else would we look, where else would we reach, where else would we come but to Jesus Christ, 'the author and finisher of our faith'?"

Family Life

“When we have sampled much and have wandered far and have seen how fleeting and sometimes superficial a lot of the world is, our gratitude grows for the privilege of being part of something we can count on—home and family and the loyalty of loved ones. We come to know what it means to be bound together by duty, by respect, by belonging. We learn that nothing can fully take the place of the blessed relationship of family life.”

Freebie Friday - Daughters in My Kingdom, free download from lds.org

The new book 'Daughters in My Kingdom' is available for free download from HERE. I have been itching to read this since I heard it was coming a couple of weeks ago. It's a valuable resource that is encouraged to be used in lessons, talks, council meetings and at home. You are promised that "as you study this history you will see that our Heavenly Father knows His daughters, that He loves them, that He trusts them with sacred responsibilities, and that He guides them as they fulfill those responsibilities. "

A Relationship that Lasts

"A relationship that lasts is one with Christ in the center. Two people putting God first, seeking Him in every way possible, in order to be as good a spouse as one can be. It’s about trusting in one another and trusting God’s plan, that He will build your relationship into one that will last for eternity."

Hatch, or Go Bad

I really liked this quote from a talk called "That Summer House in Babylon" by Sharon G Larsen at the 1999 BYU Womens Conference:

"According to the great Christian theologian C.S. Lewis, Christ says, "Give me all. I don't want so much of your time and so much of your money and so much of your work: I want you.... Hand over the whole natural self, all the desires which you think innocent as well as the ones you think wicked - the whole outfit. I will give you a new self". Lewis goes on,"The terrible thing, the almost impossible thing, is to hand over your whole self - all your wishes and precautions - to Christ. But it is far easier than what we are all trying to do instead. For what we are trying to do is remain what we call 'ourselves', to keep personal happiness as our great aim in life,....to let our mind and heart go their own way - centred on money or pleasure or ambition - and hoping, inspite of this, to behave honestly and chastely and humbly. And that is exactly what Christ warned us you could not do.... When he said, 'Be perfect,' He meant it. He meant that we must go in for the full treatment. It is hard; but the sort of compromise we are all hankering after is harder - in fact it is impossible." And Lewis explains why it's impossible: "It may be hard for an egg to turn into a bird: it would be a jolly sight harder for it to learn to fly while remaining an egg. We are like birds at present. And you cannot go on indefinitely being just an ordinary decent egg. We must be hatched, or go bad".

I hope your hatching goes well today!

Equal Partners

President Marion G. Romney taught: “[A husband and wife] should be one in harmony, respect, and mutual consideration. Neither should plan or follow an independent course of action. They should consult, pray, and decide together. … Remember that neither the wife nor the husband is the slave of the other. Husbands and wives are equal partners”.
